Glif MCP Server

app.glif/glif

Generate images, video, and audio with Glif's media-generation agent—no API keys, just OAuth sign-in.

What is the Glif MCP server?

The Glif MCP server is a media-generation agent that enables image, video, and audio creation directly from any MCP client. It uses OAuth 2.1 authentication with your Glif account and chains multi-step media operations through a single compose_project tool.

Glif lets you generate images, video, and audio; transcribe content; render HTML; search the web; and run code—all from Claude, Cursor, or any MCP-compatible client. You describe what you want in plain language, Glif picks the right models and chains the steps, and returns media via CDN URLs. Generation uses credits from your Glif account; read-only tools are free.

Tools & capabilities

Tools this server exposes to the agent.

  • compose_project — Main tool: describe what you want in plain language (including variations), and Glif picks models and chains multi-step media operations, returning a job_id to poll for results.
  • get_job_status — Poll for media generation results; returns resource_link blocks pointing to CDN URLs.
  • tools/list — List all available tools and capabilities.

Use cases

  • Generate custom images, videos, or audio from text descriptions
  • Transcribe audio content to text
  • Render HTML to images or other formats
  • Search the web and incorporate results into media generation
  • Chain multiple media operations in a single request (e.g., generate image → transcribe audio → render output)

Glif MCP server FAQ

What is the Glif MCP server?

Glif is a media-generation agent that lets you create images, video, and audio; transcribe content; render HTML; search the web; and run code—all from Claude, Cursor, or any MCP client using plain-language descriptions.

How do I install Glif in Claude or Cursor?

In Claude (web/desktop): Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector, paste https://glif.app/api/mcp. In Cursor: Add to .cursor/mcp.json with {"mcpServers": {"glif": {"url": "https://glif.app/api/mcp"}}}. One-click install buttons are available at https://glif.app/mcp.

Do I need an API key?

No. Glif uses OAuth 2.1 with dynamic client registration—just sign in with your Glif account. Your client opens a browser OAuth sign-in on first connect.

Is Glif free?

Read-only tools are free. Media generation (images, video, audio) uses credits from your Glif account. See https://glif.app/pricing for credit costs.

How does media generation work?

Call compose_project with a plain-language description of what you want. Glif picks the right models and chains the steps, returning a job_id immediately. Poll get_job_status to retrieve the media as resource_link blocks pointing to CDN URLs.

What clients does Glif support?

Glif works with Claude (web/desktop/Code), Cursor, VS Code, ChatGPT, Codex, and any MCP-compatible client. Install snippets for each are at https://glif.app/mcp.

Glif MCP Server

  • Endpoint: https://glif.app/api/mcp (Streamable HTTP, JSON-RPC 2.0)
  • Auth: OAuth 2.1 with dynamic client registration — sign in with your Glif account, no API keys
  • Install page with one-click buttons: https://glif.app/mcp
  • Docs for agents: https://glif.app/llms.txt

This repo holds the registry metadata for the hosted server (see server.json); the server itself is part of the glif.app platform and is not open source.

[!NOTE] Looking for the old locally-run stdio server (npm @glifxyz/glif-mcp-server)? It's deprecated — the code is parked on the legacy-local-server branch.

Tools

compose_project does the work — describe what you want in plain language, including a whole series of variations, and Glif picks the models and chains the steps. It returns a job_id immediately; poll get_job_status for the media, which comes back as resource_link blocks pointing at CDN URLs. The rest are read and upload helpers. Call tools/list for the authoritative set, or see https://glif.app/mcp.

Generation spends credits from the signed-in Glif account; read-only tools are free. See https://glif.app/pricing.
