Unblocked MCP Server

com.getunblocked/unblocked-mcp

Context layer for coding agents: search code, PRs, docs, issues, and conversations with citations.

What is the Unblocked MCP server?

Unblocked MCP is a Model Context Protocol server that provides coding agents with organizational context from code, pull requests, documentation, issues, and team conversations. It exposes two tools—context_research and context_get_urls—to help agents understand codebases and retrieve information with source citations.

Unblocked gives AI coding agents access to your team's knowledge across repositories, pull requests, documentation, issue trackers, and messaging platforms. Use it to research code patterns, find relevant PRs and issues, retrieve documentation, and answer questions grounded in your actual codebase and team context.

Unblocked MCP server FAQ

What is Unblocked MCP?

Unblocked MCP is a hosted Model Context Protocol server that gives coding agents access to organizational context from code, pull requests, documentation, issues, and conversations. It provides two tools: context_research for searching across sources with citations, and context_get_urls for retrieving content from known URLs.

Is Unblocked free?

Unblocked requires an account and team workspace. See getunblocked.com for pricing and trial options.

How do I install it in Cursor?

Clone the skills repository to ~/.cursor/plugins/local/unblocked-skills, restart Cursor, and confirm the plugin appears in Customize. Cursor will handle OAuth authentication when needed.

How do I install it in Claude?

Run 'claude plugin marketplace add unblocked/skills' followed by 'claude plugin install unblocked-skills' to add the skills and MCP server.

What authentication is required?

You need an Unblocked account with access to your team's workspace. Connect your source code and data sources (documentation, issue trackers, messaging) through the Unblocked dashboard, then authorize the MCP connection via OAuth.

Can I use this with the CLI?

Yes. The Unblocked CLI provides additional commands like context-search-code, context-search-prs, and context-query-issues. The skills guide agents through both CLI and MCP workflows.

Unblocked MCP and agent skills

Unblocked gives coding agents organizational context from code, pull requests, docs, issues, and conversations. Unblocked MCP makes that context available through the Model Context Protocol. Agent skills teach agents when and how to use it.

This repository contains public connection documentation, MCP Registry metadata, and agent skills. It does not contain the hosted server's implementation. The skills follow the open Agent Skills specification.

Connect to hosted Unblocked MCP

You need an Unblocked account with access to your team's workspace. To set up Unblocked, first connect your source code. Then add data sources such as documentation, issue trackers, and messaging platforms to give your agents context beyond the code. Follow the MCP setup guide to connect your coding agent.

  1. Add a remote MCP server in a client that supports Streamable HTTP and OAuth.
  2. Set the server URL to https://getunblocked.com/api/mcpsse.
  3. Select Streamable HTTP, sometimes shown as HTTP in the client.
  4. Follow the client's OAuth prompt. Sign in to Unblocked and authorize the connection.

See the current remote connection instructions for client setup and authentication details.

MCP tools

The hosted MCP server exposes two tools:

MCP toolPurpose
context_researchResearch across code, pull requests, docs, issues, and conversations. Returns an answer with source citations.
context_get_urlsRetrieve content from one or more known URLs.

MCP tools, CLI commands, and skills are separate. The Unblocked CLI provides commands such as unblocked context-research and unblocked context-get-urls. It also provides context-search-* and context-query-* commands. Those extra commands are not hosted MCP tools. The skills below guide agents through these workflows.
