How to use mcp-integration
- 1.Choose your MCP server configuration method (.mcp.json for multiple servers or inline mcpServers in plugin.json)

mcp-integration FAQ
.mcp.json is recommended for plugins with multiple MCP servers as it provides clearer separation of concerns and easier maintenance. Inline mcpServers in plugin.json works well for simple single-server plugins and keeps everything in one configuration file.
OAuth is handled automatically by Claude Code for SSE servers—users authenticate in a browser on first use. For HTTP/WebSocket servers, use environment variables in headers (e.g., Bearer tokens). For stdio servers, pass credentials via environment variables to the process.
MCP tools are automatically prefixed with mcp__plugin_<plugin-name>_<server-name>__<tool-name> to avoid conflicts. For example, an Asana plugin's create_task tool becomes mcp__plugin_asana_asana__asana_create_task.
Always pre-allow specific tools for security rather than wildcards. Use the full tool name or a narrow pattern to limit what commands can access, reducing the risk of unintended tool usage.
Provide fallback behavior in your commands, inform users of connection issues, and check server status. The skill documentation recommends handling unavailability gracefully rather than failing silently.

Overview

MCP Server Configuration Methods
Plugins can bundle MCP servers in two ways:
