google-ads-manager FAQ

What's the difference between Maximize Conversions and Target CPA bidding?

Maximize Conversions is best for new campaigns with limited conversion history—Google optimizes for volume. Target CPA requires 30+ conversions/month and lets you set a target cost per conversion, providing cost control and predictability.

How many keywords should I put in each ad group?

Keep ad groups focused with 15-20 keywords maximum. Group by theme and intent so all keywords can use the same landing page and ad copy. This improves Quality Score and relevance.

What's the difference between exact, phrase, and broad match keywords?

Exact match [keyword] targets only that exact search; phrase match "keyword" matches that phrase plus variations; broad match keyword matches related terms. Use exact for high-intent, phrase for balanced reach/relevance, and broad for discovery.

How should I structure my Responsive Search Ad headlines?

Pin position 1 to a keyword/benefit headline, position 2 to a value prop or differentiator, and position 3 to a CTA. Provide 15 total headlines (minimum 3) with max 30 characters each so Google can test combinations.

When should I use Performance Max campaigns?

Performance Max is best when you have conversion tracking enabled, multiple asset types (images, videos, headlines, descriptions), and want Google to optimize across all channels (Search, Display, YouTube, Gmail). It requires less manual management than Search campaigns.
