resume-section-builder FAQ

Should I include a professional summary?

Include a summary if you're a career changer (explain transition), senior professional (distill long career), returning to workforce (address gaps), or in a highly specialized role. Skip it if you're entry-level with straightforward progression or space is limited.

How many bullets should each job have?

Entry-level: 3-5 bullets per role. Mid-career: 4-6 for recent roles, 2-3 for older roles. Senior: 5-6 for recent roles, 2-3 for older roles. Focus on achievements with metrics rather than duties.

What skills should I list?

Include technical skills (languages, frameworks, tools), functional skills (project management, analysis), and industry knowledge. Exclude Microsoft Office, basic skills, outdated tech, and soft skills—show those through achievements instead.

How should I format my education section?

Entry-level: include degree, school, year, GPA (if 3.5+), honors, relevant coursework, and projects. Mid-career: degree, school, year only. Senior: may skip year to avoid age discrimination.

What order should my resume sections be in?

Standard order: Contact, Summary (optional), Skills, Experience, Education, Additional. For technical roles, prioritize Skills. For recent graduates, prioritize Education. For executives, follow standard order.
