Write ShopifyQL queries for analytics and reporting on aggregated store metrics.
What is shopify-shopifyql?
ShopifyQL is Shopify's query language for answering analytics and reporting questions about aggregated store metrics that the Admin GraphQL API cannot compute. Use this skill when merchants ask for numbers, totals, trends, or breakdowns—such as sales, order counts, conversion rates, and traffic—rather than fetching or mutating individual records.
- Write ShopifyQL queries for total, gross, and net sales and revenue metrics
- Generate queries for order counts, average order value, refunds, and quantity sold
- Create queries for sessions, conversion rates, and traffic analysis
- Slice metrics by product, channel, region, or customer
- Trend metrics over time and compare period-over-period
- Identify top performers like best-selling products by revenue
How to install shopify-shopifyql
npx skills add https://github.com/shopify/shopify-ai-toolkit --skill shopify-shopifyqlHow to use shopify-shopifyql
- 1.Identify the merchant's analytics question and determine what metric(s) they need (sales, orders, conversion rate, traffic, etc.).
- 2.Determine how the data should be sliced (by product, channel, region, customer) and any time-based comparisons needed.
- 3.Write the ShopifyQL query that retrieves the requested aggregated metrics.
- 4.If the merchant wants to execute the query against their store, hand off execution to the `use-shopify-cli` skill.
Use cases
- A merchant asks "What were my total sales last 7 days?" — write the ShopifyQL query to retrieve that metric.
- A merchant wants to know "Which sales channel generated the most orders this month?" — create a query that breaks down orders by channel.
- A merchant needs "Top 10 products by revenue this quarter" — write a query that ranks products and trends the data.
- A merchant asks "What's my conversion rate this week compared to last week?" — create a period-over-period comparison query.
- A merchant wants "Sales by region for the last year" — write a query that slices sales data geographically and trends it over time.
- Shopify merchants seeking analytics and reporting insights
- Store owners analyzing sales performance and trends
- E-commerce managers reviewing channel and product performance
- Business analysts comparing metrics across time periods and dimensions

description: "Answer a merchant's analytics and reporting questions with ShopifyQL — Shopify's query language for aggregated store metrics that the Admin GraphQL API cannot compute. Choose this (not admin) whenever the ask is for numbers, totals, trends, or breakdowns rather than fetching or mutating individual records: including but not limited to total/gross/net sales and revenue, order counts, average order value, refunds, quantity sold, sessions, conversion rate, and traffic — sliced by product, channel, region, or customer, trended over time, or compared period-over-period. Examples: "total sales last 7 days", "orders by sales channel this month", "top products by revenue", "conversion rate this week", "sales this year vs last year". This topic covers writing the ShopifyQL query; if the merchant wants to run it against their store, execution is handed off to use-shopify-cli. Not for general Admin GraphQL record operations — fetching or mutating individual resources (use admin)."
