Master TypeScript's advanced type system: generics, conditional types, mapped types, and utility types for type-safe applications.
What is typescript-advanced-types?
Comprehensive guidance for building with TypeScript's advanced type features including generics, conditional types, mapped types, template literal types, and utility types. Use this when designing type-safe libraries, frameworks, API clients, or migrating JavaScript codebases to leverage strong typing.
- Design and implement generic types for reusable components
- Apply conditional types for dynamic type inference
- Create mapped types to transform and derive new types
- Use template literal types for string-based type construction
- Leverage utility types (Partial, Pick, Omit, Record, etc.) for common patterns
- Build type-safe validation systems and configuration objects
How to install typescript-advanced-types
npx skills add https://github.com/sickn33/agentic-awesome-skills --skill typescript-advanced-typesHow to use typescript-advanced-types
- 1.Clarify your goals, constraints, and required inputs for the type system design
- 2.Review `resources/implementation-playbook.md` for detailed patterns and examples relevant to your use case
- 3.Apply the appropriate advanced type patterns (generics, conditional types, mapped types, etc.) to your codebase
- 4.Validate your type definitions with test cases and real usage scenarios
- 5.Verify outcomes and refine types based on actual usage patterns
Use cases
- Building type-safe REST API clients with request/response inference
- Implementing strongly-typed form validation frameworks
- Creating reusable generic React components with proper type constraints
- Designing type-safe state management systems (Redux, Zustand)
- Migrating large JavaScript projects to TypeScript with incremental typing
- TypeScript developers building libraries or frameworks
- Backend engineers designing type-safe APIs
- Frontend developers creating reusable component systems
- Teams migrating JavaScript codebases to TypeScript
- Developers implementing complex type inference logic
typescript-advanced-types FAQ
Use generics for parameterizing types across components and functions. Use conditional types when you need to infer or select types based on conditions, such as extracting array element types or creating type-dependent return types.
Mapped types are a language feature for transforming existing types into new ones (e.g., making all properties readonly). Utility types are pre-built mapped types provided by TypeScript (Partial, Pick, Record, etc.) that solve common problems.
Template literal types allow you to create string literal types based on patterns, enabling type-safe string manipulation and validation. They're useful for creating type-safe event names, CSS class names, or API route patterns.
Advanced TypeScript types exist only in the type system and are erased at runtime. You can use them in JavaScript projects with JSDoc comments, but TypeScript files provide better tooling and validation.
Use TypeScript's type-checking at compile time, create test files with type assertions, and use tools like `tsd` or `expect-type` to validate that types behave as expected.
