cc-skill-security-review FAQ
Always use environment variables. Store them in .env.local (added to .gitignore) for development and in your hosting platform (Vercel, Railway, etc.) for production. Never commit secrets to git.
Validation checks that input matches expected format (e.g., email is valid). Sanitization removes or escapes dangerous characters. Use both: validate structure with schemas, then sanitize HTML content with DOMPurify.
httpOnly cookies cannot be accessed by JavaScript, protecting against XSS attacks. localStorage is vulnerable to XSS. Use httpOnly, Secure, and SameSite=Strict flags.
Never concatenate user input into SQL queries. Use parameterized queries with placeholders ($1, $2) or use an ORM/query builder like Prisma or Supabase that handles escaping automatically.
Immediately rotate the secret in your hosting platform. Use git-filter-repo or BFG to remove it from history. Treat the exposed secret as compromised.
