openhue FAQ

Do I need a Hue Bridge?

Yes, the Hue Bridge must be on your local network. OpenHue communicates with it to control lights.

Can I control non-Hue smart lights?

No, OpenHue only works with Philips Hue devices. Other brands are not supported.

What color formats are supported?

Colors can be set by name (e.g., red, blue) or hex code (e.g., #FF5500). Color control only works on color-capable bulbs, not white-only bulbs.

Can I use this with HomeKit or Shortcuts?

No, use Apple's HomeKit ecosystem for that. OpenHue is a standalone CLI tool for direct Hue Bridge control.

How do I list all available scenes?

Run: openhue get scene to list all scenes available on your Hue Bridge.
