turso-cloud

tursodatabase/agent-skills

Fully managed SQLite-compatible database platform with vector search, branching, and multi-language SDKs.

What is turso-cloud?

Turso Cloud is a network-accessible SQLite-compatible database service. Use it when you need to connect applications to a managed cloud database, issue scoped authentication tokens, or provision databases across JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Go, and Rust environments.

  • Connect to remote Turso Cloud databases from Node.js, serverless/edge functions, browsers, and React Native
  • Create and scope authentication tokens with fine-grained per-table permissions and external auth provider integration (Clerk, Auth0)
  • Query databases with positional/named parameters, batches, and interactive transactions
  • Provision and manage cloud databases including branching, point-in-time recovery, and embedded replicas
  • Perform native vector search (cosine, L2, L1 distance) and full-text search (BM25) without extensions
  • Integrate with Vercel Marketplace for automatic environment variable injection and resource provisioning

How to install turso-cloud

Prerequisites
  • Turso Cloud account (free tier available)
  • Turso CLI installed for token generation and management
  • Language-specific SDK: @tursodatabase/serverless (JS/TS), pyturso/libsql (Python), tursogo/libsql-client-go (Go), or turso/libsql crate (Rust)

How to use turso-cloud

  1. 1.Create a Turso Cloud database via the web console or CLI
  2. 2.Generate a database URL and authentication token (platform token or scoped JWT)
  3. 3.Install the appropriate language SDK for your runtime
  4. 4.Initialize a client connection with the database URL and token
  5. 5.Execute queries using the SDK's query API (parameters, batches, transactions as supported)
  6. 6.For fine-grained access control, create scoped tokens with specific table/read-only/time-limited permissions

Use cases

Good for
  • Building AI/RAG applications with native vector similarity search on embeddings
  • Provisioning isolated database branches for testing and staging environments
  • Connecting serverless functions to a shared managed database with fine-grained access control
  • Syncing local-first databases with cloud storage for offline-capable mobile and web apps
  • Integrating Turso databases into Vercel projects via the marketplace
Who it's for
  • Full-stack developers using Node.js, Python, Go, or Rust
  • Serverless and edge function developers
  • Mobile developers building offline-first apps with React Native
  • Teams using Vercel for deployment
  • AI/ML engineers building RAG and embedding-based search systems

turso-cloud FAQ

What is the difference between remote-only and local-first sync?

Remote-only access (libsql SDKs) queries the cloud database directly over the network. Local-first sync (@tursodatabase/sync, pyturso, tursogo, turso crate) maintains a local SQLite replica that syncs with Turso Cloud, enabling offline reads and faster performance.

Can I use Turso with external authentication providers?

Yes. The turso-cloud-auth skill covers JWKS-based external auth (Clerk, Auth0) and token scoping with fine-grained per-table permissions.

Does Turso support vector search for AI applications?

Yes. Turso Cloud includes native vector search with cosine, L2, and L1 distance functions and DiskANN indexing, plus native vector types for embeddings—no extensions required.

How do I use Turso with Vercel?

Provision Turso through the Vercel Marketplace (integration slug `tursocloud`). The marketplace automatically injects database credentials as environment variables and provides CLI tools for resource management.

What happens if my application goes offline?

If using embedded replicas (local-first sync), reads continue from the local copy. Remote-only connections will fail until connectivity is restored.

name: turso-cloud description: > Turso Cloud — fully managed SQLite-compatible database platform, accessed over the network. Use when connecting an application to a Turso Cloud database, creating or scoping auth tokens (JWT, fine-grained permissions, JWKS/external auth providers), or provisioning and managing cloud databases. Turso Cloud Skills

This skill combines documentation for working with Turso Cloud, the fully managed SQLite-compatible database platform. Pick the relevant sub-skill below.

turso-cloud-js

Work with the @tursodatabase/serverless TypeScript/JavaScript SDK for remote Turso Cloud databases — queries, positional/named parameters, batches, and interactive transactions — plus the local-first sync family (@tursodatabase/sync, -wasm, -react-native). Use when connecting to Turso Cloud from Node.js, serverless/edge functions, browsers, or React Native.

turso-cloud-py

Work with Turso Cloud from Python: pyturso for local-first databases that sync with the cloud, and libsql for remote-only access over the libsql protocol. Use when connecting Python applications to Turso Cloud.

turso-cloud-go

Work with Turso Cloud from Go: tursogo for local-first databases that sync with the cloud, and libsql-client-go for remote-only access over the libsql protocol. Use when connecting Go applications to Turso Cloud.

turso-cloud-rust

Work with Turso Cloud from Rust: the turso crate (sync feature) for local-first databases that sync with the cloud, and the libsql crate for remote-only access over the libsql protocol. Use when connecting Rust applications to Turso Cloud.

turso-cloud-auth

Authenticate and authorize access to Turso Cloud databases: database URLs, platform tokens via the Turso CLI, scoping (group/database/read-only/time-limited), fine-grained per-table permissions, external auth providers via JWKS (Clerk, Auth0), and token invalidation. Use when issuing credentials, restricting what a client can do, or wiring an existing auth provider to Turso.

turso-cloud-vercel

Use and manage Turso Cloud databases provisioned through the Vercel Marketplace (integration slug tursocloud): injected environment variables, inspecting and provisioning resources with the Vercel CLI, region selection, and safety rules for credentials and destructive operations. Use when a Vercel project has — or needs — a Turso database.

Turso Cloud features

Turso Cloud databases support these features out of the box:

  • Vector search — native similarity search for AI/RAG workflows, no extensions needed. Supports cosine, L2, and L1 distance functions with DiskANN indexing.
  • Full-text search — keyword search with BM25 ranking via built-in FTS support.
  • AI & embeddings — native vector types for storing and querying embeddings.
  • Branching — create isolated copy-on-write database branches for testing/staging.
  • Point-in-time recovery — restore databases to any previous point in time (retention depends on plan).
  • Embedded replicas — local replicas that sync with Turso Cloud for fast reads and offline support.
  • SQLite extensions — JSON, FTS5, R*Tree, SQLean, UUID, regexp.
