Free shared kanban boards with no signup—drive them via CLI or MCP for AI-powered task management.
What is the KanbanThing MCP server?
The KanbanThing MCP server lets you create and manage kanban boards through an AI agent or script. It provides access to shared, password-protected boards with columns, cards, due dates, and multiple views—all without requiring accounts or API keys, just a board link.
KanbanThing is a free, no-signup kanban tool designed for temporary projects and collaboration. This MCP server exposes its command-line interface to AI agents, enabling you to create boards, add and move cards, manage columns, and view work by due date or activity—all programmatically. It's ideal for AI-assisted task planning, retrospectives, and short-term project tracking.

KanbanThing MCP server FAQ
A free, no-signup kanban board tool where boards are shared by default via a link. Anyone with the link sees the same board in real time.
No. You create a board by choosing a name and password, then share the link. No email or signup required.
Install the KanbanThing MCP server (remote HTTP endpoint at https://www.kanbanthing.com/mcp), then provide your board link. Claude or Cursor can then create, move, and query cards programmatically.
Boards are deleted up to 60 days after creation. This tool is designed for short-term work; export or copy data if you need long-term history.
Yes. When you create a board, you can generate a read-only link to share with people who should view but not edit.
Kanban (columns and cards), calendar (by due date), timeline (by recent activity), and backlog (unscheduled work).

KanbanThing
A free kanban board you can share with a link. No account, no email, no install.
You name a board, choose a password, and get a link. Anyone you send that link to opens the same board and moves the same cards. That last part is the point — most free no-signup kanban tools keep the board in one browser's local storage, so it can never really be shared. This one is shared by default.
What it does
- Columns you can add, rename and reorder, starting from To Do, In Progress and Done
- Cards with a description, a colour and a due date, moved by drag and drop or from the card menu
- A backlog for work that is not scheduled yet
- A calendar view of the same cards by due date, and a timeline view by most recent activity
- A password on every board, set when the board is created, plus a read-only link for people who should see the board but not change it
- Light and dark appearance, following your system setting
- A command line client with
--jsonon every command, so a script or an AI agent can drive the same board a person has open in a browser — see the CLI docs
What it does not do
There are no accounts, no teams, no permissions and no paid tier. Boards are deleted up to 60 days after they are created, so copy out anything you want to keep.
If you need long-lived project history, this is the wrong tool, and that is on purpose. It suits work with an end in sight: a retrospective, a short project, or a personal board you start again every few weeks.
Guides
- Choosing the columns on a kanban board
- Running a retrospective on a shared board
- Personal kanban: running a board for one
- Edit links, read-only links and passwords
