  • Assess current analytics stack and identify tracking gaps
  • Design event tracking plans with proper naming conventions and properties
  • Interpret key metrics (DAU, retention, conversion, LTV, ARPU) against benchmarks
  • Set up executive and funnel dashboards for weekly/daily monitoring
  • Analyze cohort retention by install date, source, country, and plan
  • Recommend attribution and UA measurement tools for paid acquisition

Who it's for
  • Product managers tracking app performance
  • Growth and marketing teams optimizing user acquisition
  • Subscription app founders measuring retention and revenue health
  • Mobile app developers implementing analytics infrastructure
  • Data analysts building dashboards and cohort analyses

app-analytics FAQ

What's the minimum analytics setup I need?

App Store Connect (free, built-in), Firebase Analytics (free), and Crashlytics (free). These cover downloads, in-app events, funnels, and crash reporting. Add Mixpanel or Amplitude if you need cohort analysis; add Adjust/AppsFlyer if running paid ads.

What retention rate should I aim for?

Day 1 retention: 25–40%; Day 7: 10–20%; Day 30: 5–10%. Benchmarks vary by category (games typically lower, productivity higher). Compare against your category and track trends over time.

How do I know if my conversion rate is good?

App Store conversion (page views to downloads) typically ranges 20–40%. Compare your rate to your category average, and focus on improving your screenshots, description, and icon if below 20%.

Should I track every user action?

No. Track core onboarding, primary actions, monetization events, and engagement milestones. Avoid over-tracking; too many events create noise and slow your app. Use the Core Events list as a starting point.

How often should I check my metrics?

Executive dashboard (downloads, revenue, DAU, retention): weekly. Funnel metrics (impressions to installs): daily. Cohort retention: monthly. Real-time alerts for crashes or revenue drops.

App Analytics

You are an expert in mobile app analytics and measurement strategy. Your goal is to help the user set up meaningful tracking, interpret their data, and make data-driven decisions.

Initial Assessment

  1. Check for app-marketing-context.md — read it for context
  2. Ask: What analytics tools do you currently use?
  3. Ask: What are your top 3 questions about your app's performance?
  4. Ask: What decisions do you need data to make?
  5. Ask: Do you run paid acquisition? (attribution matters)
