meshy-3d-generation

meshy-dev/meshy-3d-agent

Generate and edit 3D models, textures, rigging, and animations using Meshy CLI.

What is meshy-3d-generation?

Meshy 3D Generation creates or edits digital 3D assets including models, textures, rigging, animation, and reference images. Use this skill when you need to generate 3D content, apply textures, rig characters, or animate models; for physical 3D printing, use the meshy-3d-printing skill instead.

  • Generate 3D models from requests using Meshy CLI 0.4.0
  • Apply textures to existing or newly generated models
  • Rig and animate 3D assets
  • Convert between 3D file formats (e.g., to GLB)
  • Work with reference images and existing assets
  • Download and preview generated 3D content

How to install meshy-3d-generation

npx skills add https://github.com/meshy-dev/meshy-3d-agent --skill meshy-3d-generation
Prerequisites
  • Meshy CLI 0.4.0 (installed via npm or resolved automatically)
  • Meshy account credentials (login via device authentication)
  • Output directory specified for saving generated assets

How to use meshy-3d-generation

  1. 1.Install the skill using the provided npm command
  2. 2.Run `auth login --device` if not already authenticated, and approve via the verification URL
  3. 3.Describe the 3D asset you want to create or edit
  4. 4.The agent will choose the appropriate pipeline (generation, texturing, rigging, or animation)
  5. 5.Review the preview when available
  6. 6.Download the completed asset(s) to your specified output location

Use cases

Good for
  • Generate a textured 3D character model for a game or animation project
  • Create product visualizations with proper texturing and lighting
  • Rig a character model for animation workflows
  • Convert and optimize existing 3D assets to different formats
  • Generate multiple variations of a 3D asset by reusing and editing existing models
Who it's for
  • 3D artists and game developers
  • Product designers and visualization specialists
  • Animation and VFX professionals
  • Game studios and creative teams
  • Anyone creating digital 3D content

meshy-3d-generation FAQ

What file formats does Meshy support?

Meshy works with common 3D formats including GLB and can convert between formats. The skill handles format conversion as part of the pipeline.

How long does 3D generation take?

Generation time varies by complexity and pipeline stage. The skill submits tasks asynchronously and waits for completion, keeping the agent turn active during processing.

Can I edit an existing 3D model?

Yes. You can reuse existing assets for follow-ups, apply new textures, add rigging, or animate existing models without regenerating from scratch.

What is the file size limit for local inputs?

Local inputs are limited to 50 MiB. For larger files, use the supported URL input route.

Do I need to approve each generation before it charges?

Yes. The agent proposes additional paid stages or reruns before spending credits, allowing you to review scope and budget.

Meshy 3D Generation

Use Meshy CLI 0.4.0 to turn the user's request into a delivered asset. Completion means saving the requested files in the requested location, inspecting an available preview, and finishing any project integration the user requested. Login or task submission alone is not completion. Choose the shortest suitable pipeline and reuse existing assets for follow-ups.

Read what this request needs

NeedReference
CLI runner, credentials, or output locationSetup
Generation, texturing, rigging, animation, or conversionPipelines
Cost, waiting, preview, delivery, or finding a previous modelDelivery
Failed or uncertain operationTroubleshooting

Read the relevant section when needed; recipes are examples to adapt to the requested result, not a requirement to execute every stage. An untextured model skips texture generation; an existing GLB needs no extra format conversion. Use command help when parameters are uncertain.

First use and authorization

Resolve the runner automatically: use compatible meshy, otherwise npm exec --yes --package=meshy-cli@0.4.0 -- meshy …. Reuse a verified session. If login is needed, follow Setup and run auth login --device in a persistent tool session. Show its verification URL and user code in commentary/progress, not a final answer. Await that same session in this turn until it exits, verify auth status, then continue the original request. A background process cannot resume a finished turn; do not require a "done" chat message. Browser approval stays with the user; credentials never belong in chat.

Execution boundaries

  • Run API, upload, download and mesh operations through the CLI. Local inputs have a 50 MiB limit; use the supported URL input route where appropriate.
  • Use --output-schema v1 --format json --no-update-check for business commands; auth has its own JSON shape. Resolve WORKSPACE from the user's output path and pass it to writes.
  • Submit once with create --async, retain the owning resource and ID, then wait on that task. Keep the agent turn active while awaiting a running command. Follow Troubleshooting on timeout or unknown submission; these do not authorize another paid create.
  • Continue work within the user's approved scope and budget. Propose additional paid stages or reruns before spending; Delivery specifies estimates and balance checks.

Deliver

Download only needed assets. Inspect and show a preview when available; a missing preview must not prevent delivery or be described as inspected. Delivery covers earlier-stage preview lookup, actual charges, and existing-project integration. Report the result and any concrete limitation; a rendered image does not establish topology quality or provide a 3D viewer.
